Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School Principal Selected

A unanimous decision of the MLK Site Based Decision Making Council leads to hiring a principal for Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary. Carrie Caples has been selected to lead the school as principal and will begin her new duties on Dec. 1.

Ms. Caples will replace interim principal Anita Hopson. Ms. Hopson will resume her position as the district’s Director of Elementary Education.

A graduate of Hopkinsville High School, Ms. Caples has spent 20 years working in Christian County Public School System. Throughout her tenure at CCPS, she began her first job working as a school bus monitor, before taking a job as bus driver. When she later accepted a position as an instructional assistant, she began working to complete a bachelor degree in elementary education. Ms. Caples has 13 years of teaching experience. For the past year, she has worked as an instructional coach at MLK, Jr.

“We are excited to welcome Ms. Caples as the new principal. Her familiarity with students, staff and parents will be a tremendous asset to the school overall. Ms. Caples has proven excellent leadership skills and we are excited for the future of MLK School,” says Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill.

“It is such an honor to be chosen for this opportunity and I am looking forward to working with a great team. MLK is great school and I am thankful to be a part of this family,” says Ms. Caples, Principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School.

Ms. Caples received her bachelors degree in elementary education from Murray State University. She holds her masters degree in curriculum and instructional assessment and recently completed a second masters degree in educational administration. Ms. Caples is currently taking courses to complete her Level 1 Director of Pupil Personnel Certificate. See picture *attached.
